Q: What are your family traditions? I hear the service is all day, is that true? What foods do you eat? This is my first Rosh Hashanah.
A: Rosh Hashana is observed with praying in synagogue, hearing the shofar. Festive meals with challah. Auspicious foods such as apples dipped in honey, fish heads and pomegranates are often eaten, as well as new fruits on the second night. Refraining from work. Services are usually all day during Yom Kippur but can be for Rosh Hashana too. If you have more questions, please contact me.
