Q: sorry to sound naive to all those americans out there but i need to know for my travel and tourism cwk and i thought this could be an easy way of getting the answer lol! i am guessing it's a celebration of thanks, but thanks for what?

A: Only people in North America celebrate it. We celebrate it to give blessings and thanks to God for all our food, family, friends, etc. The whole tradition started when the first European settlers arrived in America in search of freedom. The pilgrims would have suffered greatly during the hard winters in 1621, but luckily a Native American named Squanto taught them how to both catch fish and grow corn. So, basically, we celebrate Thanksgiving because we want to be thankful for what we have and that we have freedom. Plus, we thank the Pilgrims and Squanto.
