I'm new here in the US so please tell me why Thanksgiving is a holiday.?

Q: And why they say it's like a bigger holiday than Christmas.

A: Thanksgiving dates back to when our country was founded. It was a hard life, and after all the planting and work, there was a wonderful bounty. The American Indians had introduced the pilgrims to new foods, and all in all it was a wonderful huge dinner. So basically, it is to show thanks for a bountiful harvest, and good friends and family. The traditional dinner is made up of things like turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potaoes, corn and other vegetables, cranberries, breads, apple pie, and pumpkin pie. Foods that are harvested around this time. I wouldn't say it's bigger than Christmas. It is the kick-off of the 'holiday season'. So spend time with family and friends and eat. Say a prayer of thanks for everything you've been given over the last year. That's it. Enjoy!
