Do you think Thanksgiving is a family holiday? Why?

Q:

A: Yes, I do. Many families choose to get together on Thanksgiving rather than Christmas because it is easier to transport food than gifts and clothing for all of the family members. Imagine having to wrap and transport gifts, clothing, people and sanity for an extended stay over Christmas then organizing all of the gifts and people back home after the holiday. Thanksgiving is basically a food holiday and that can either be made after arrival and eating on the leftovers for the extended weekend usually handles the problem of lots of food. This is also a time to set up the Christmas tree for the familial home and allow the hanging of ornaments for all to see and experience without the rush of getting to the home for the beginning of the Christmas holiday. Perhaps this is primarily the way it is done in the American South which is where I grew up, so this is from my personal past.
