Q: so yeah, next thursday my family and i are planning to attend the nyc macy's thanksgiving day parade. im looking for tips or suggestions about going to see the parade. such as, the appropriate time to get there, appropriate attire, best way of transportation, or just other tips i need to know before i go there. please help me!!

A: Dress in layers so you can add or subtract as the day goes by and you get warmer or colder.. Bring along small plastic parkas they are easier to handle than umbrellas and take up much less room if it rains your covered if it doesn't you didn't fight an unbrella all day.. Each person going should have a small day pack (backpack) with granola bars (other light weight snacky foods) , bottled water, a thermos with hot soup/coffee, a book or other small activity to pass the time before the parade starts, make sure everyone has everyone elses cell number incase you get seperated (also great when one person runs for coffee or food as the people in the crowd can see the person out of the crowd and guide them back more easily than the one coming back can see those in the crowd).. Once you get into the city area take the subway it's by far the fastest easiest means of transport in NYC... Check their website for possible holiday schedule changes... Plan on arriving 2-4 hours ahead of time unless you are sitting in the stands with reserved seating at Harold Square in which case arrive 1-1.5 hours early... When departing wait about and hour after the parade passes by you (eat some of your snacks have some coffee etc.) and let the crowd rush out you bring up the rear with far less trouble and crowding... Visit the Macy's Parade website they have more tips and helpful hints for making your parade experience go well...
