why do you (or think other people) celebrate thanksgiving?

Q:

A: We learn in grade school that this holiday represents the thankfulness of the pilgrims for the success of their autumn harvest which helped them survive their first and successive winters in the new land. Much of this thankfulness was probably directed toward the Native American, Squanto, who was largely responsible for teaching the Plymouth settlers (pilgrims) to grow and harvest corn and otherwise survive through the winter. These days, however, while most people know the general idea behind Thanksgiving, most of us are simply celebrating a few days off of work (with pay in some cases) and the opportunity to eat ourselves into a stupor with no guilt.
