A: St. Patrick's day is important to the Irish because it's the celebration of the man who drove the "snakes" out of Ireland. The "snakes" being the pagans. Supposidly all the pagans were converted to Christianity and Ireland became a Christian nation. Most pagans I know don't celebrate St. Patty's day, but it's a darned good excuse to go get ripped. ;)
