A: This is exactly why the secular world is destroying spirituality. What I am saying is not the fault of yourself, asker. It is the fault of modern society. There is no longer respect and education for the original roots of what are supposed to be religious holidays. Back in the simple times of life (pre-19th century), everyone probably knew why we have a Saint Patrick's Day. Now, all that the day is being used for is the wearing of green. Saint Patrick's Day commemorates when the now canonized St. Patrick brought Catholicism to Ireland. Hundreds of thousands of new individuals were welcomed into the faith. Fun Fact of the Day: As you might know, this week (Palm Sunday thru Easter) is considered as Holy Week by many Christian denominations. Did you know that if the celebration of a solemnity of a saint occurs on this week, the holiday is supposed to be "rescheduled", according to Vatican law, in order to focus on what will soon be the resurrection of Christ.
