Q: since it's irish day today ok i don't think i was specific when i meant where. i mean the meaning! not the country of origin! sorry for the miscommunication. i mean Christmas is the birth of jesus and easter's when he rises from the dead. (although i'm quite skeptical of the whole we saw his tomb open so therefore he's back from the dead. but beyond that) so what makes st. patrick's day a celebrated day? i know they built a lot of cathedrals such as.... st. patrick's cathedral (der) does that have anything to do with it?...

A: It was supposedly the day that St Patrick died. It was named after him for all the work he did in Ireland as far as Christianity goes. He supposedly converted them to Christianity from their pagan beliefs. He was born in Britain (was called a different name at first) and then taken captive by Irish Raiders when he was 16. He was a prisoner for more than 6 years. He made it back to Britain where he started studying religion even more (that lasted almost 15 years) He decided the Irish needed him to show them the Christian way so he went back.
