Is the holiday for St. Patrick a day that Irish spend with other Irish immigrants?

Q: As I understood the observance of Polish-Americans in advance of Ash Wednesday (they call that day PACZKI DAY) they eat those filled pastries- fried donuts and enjoy each others' company ahead of Lent - - do Irish observers of St. Patrick's Day make a big deal of seeing relatives and fellow descendants of common "old country" immigrants?

A: st. patricks day is a huge day for the irish. our whole family gets together. i'd say possibly about 50-60 of us. all together talking, sharing stories, having fun, and of course drinking.
