A: I am half Irish. I have never used St. Patrick's day as an excuse to get drunk. St. Patrick is regarded as a hero in Ireland. Old fables say that St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. The Catholic church says that St. Patrick is the person primarily responsible for bringing Christianity to the Irish people. Before "God called him back to Ireland" the Irish people were pagans. It is good that St. Patrick's day is celebrated in America because when the Irish first settled here, we were hated and treated very badly. Now (at least for one day a year) we are revered, and everyone wants to be Irish.
