What is snake saturday?

Q: In kansas city snake saturday is observed the saturday before st patricks, with a parade, green beer, and a party almost as big as st patricks day. Do any other city's celebrate this event, if so what is the reason for this day? What is the symbolic meaning for it?

A: The only explanation I can find is: Snake Saturday would be the celebration of St Patrick eliminating the snakes from Ireland, because St Patrick's day is the celebration of his death. If you google, North Kansas city Missouri is the only city shown that celebrates this "holiday" in addition to the actual St Patrick's day holiday. The only real explanation would be for merchants to create another "hallmark holiday" to create revenue for the city and merchants in the area.
