Why do Irish-Americans let themselves be stereo-typed as a bunch of out of control drunkards?

Q: Once again, this March Irish-Americans will allow the celebration of their patron Saint to be degraded into a drunken free-for-all. The Irish fought long and hard for a place in American society, why doesn't anyone complain? No other ethnic group would stand for this, why do they? Serious answers only, please.

A: Because they're not complainers by nature. The Irish have had it the worst out of all the immigrants who've come to America. IN the 1800's, southern slave owners would hire Irish to do jobs that they wouldn't even make their slaves do: the slaves were too valuable. The Irish worked hard, fought hard in the Civil and World Wars, and earned their placed in America. Many of them do drink, but they're not ashamed of it, and aren't so inordinately sensitive that they have to make every little joke about them a hate crime or racial abuse. Other minorities could learn a lot from the Irish. By the way, the Germans do the same thing during Oktoberfest.
