Q:

A: The day honoring St. Patrick. St. Patrick was the patron saint of Ireland. He considered himself a pagan until the age of 16 when he was captured by and sold into slavery by Irish marauders. During his captivity he became closer to God and he decided that it was his life's mission to convert his once fellow pagans to Christianity. St. Patrick was very good at converting pagans which upset the pagan leaders, Celtic Druids. He was arrested several times for his "crimes" but managed to escape each and every time. He also traveled throughout Ireland establishing monasteries, churches and schools. St. Patrick is shrouded in legends and myths. One of the most popular being that he once gave a sermon from the top of a mountain that rid Ireland of all it's snakes. A less popular legend says that St. Patrick was able to bring people back from the dead. Of course today St. Patrick's Day is most famous for parades, green beer and wearing green clothes. Happy St. Patrick's Day.
