Q: I can't fast because of health reasons and my friend who is Ismaili doesn't fast in Ramadhan, we went to a Muslim run cafe/restaurant and ordered food, we sat down at a table and were told we cannot eat in the restaurant we have to take the food away (they did not tell us in a nice way either), we explained our situation and they still refused us. and if you can't eat there why are they open at all? I do respect Ramadan, but I don't see why I can't eat somewhere public, its not my fault I don't fast,
A: Yes it was wrong, because as part of Ramadan they should be providing for the less fortunate, as somebody who is bound to eat due to ill-health you are less well off than them and you have the right to eat in public. It's just part of the test of Ramadan for fasters to see people eating and control their desire to eat. It's also bad adaab to give someone poor service, something called Khidmat in Islam, the bad service here being the way they told you, they could have been polite about it.
