What happens if I get too hungry while fasting during Ramadan?

Q: This is my first Ramadan, and I'd like to see it through. I'm used to eating several small meals a day, and to go from several meals to none, is pretty hard. I'm constantly hungry. Are there any consequences for eating during fasting time? Will I have to make up a day if I eat? Please keep in mind I'm doing this go gain a better understanding of Muslim tradition. I don't know enough about the Muslim religion to understand what to do and what not to do. I have a friend who's helping me. Also, please refrain from sarcasm. I appreciate any advice.

A: I read the Qur'an, or do my homework. Maybe you could take a nap. Yes if you eat you will have to make it up afterwards, but you can only break the fast if you are ill, traveling, pregnant or have your menstrual period. It's really great that you are doing this to understand Islam, we really appreciate it, salaam : )
