Q: why is this? it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Thank you .. safy

A: Many reasons. Women were given a lighter burden of obligations for salaat because of their responsibilities to their family (childcare) and also for their physical difference (monthly cycle). She also doesn't have to make up any prayers she missed during her cycle. A man has to make up any missed prayers. Out of modesty, a woman has the option of praying at home or going to the masjid if she wishes. For the man, the community prayer at the masjid is compulsory. This is for all prayers, not just jumah on friday.
