My husband is muslim, what to do for ramadan?

Q: Im chrisitan and my husband is muslim, I wanted to suprise him before ramadan, but I'm not sure what I should get him or do..Its close and I just want to do something special for him, is there a certain tradition..I don't think he likes dates. and i wanted to do it like the first day of ramadan?

A: I'm also a Christian married to a Muslim and last year I was with him during Ramadan. It was actually the first time we met face to face and were getting married. We were staying with cousins so his mom made sfoufa and shebakiya(two sweets) that are two of the traditional foods they eat as well as harira and boiled eggs. I couldn't participate completely in the fast because I'm diabetic, but I ate as little as I could to keep my diabetes under control. Like another said here you can have the food ready for him when the time comes to break his fast. If he doesn't like dates, he might like figs and if so you can have a couple ready for him along with whatever he wants to have to drink. Just having the food ready or if possible and he's home before the time for breaking his fast arrives he will probably help you prepare it. That really was what we enjoyed the most, making the meal together. Just supporting him and participating with him will mean the world to him and that will be enough to show him how much you love him. Congrats on your first Ramadan and I hope it will be as much of a pleasure and blessing to you as my first experience was.
