A: Iqama is the second call for a prayer that is done in Jama'ah (in groups) its purpose is to announce to people that the prayer is about to start. You don't need to do it if you are praying alone. The words iqamah is derived from standing up (or starting up). Athan is the first call for prayer. Athan is longer than Iqamah. Its purpose is to let people know that the prayer timing has started. So, they can start getting ready for Wudu. Iqama is announcement to start Jama'ah.
