Q: Where in the Qur'an, or for that matter in a hadith, does it say that paying zakat for a family better is better than zakat for another person or something along the lines of paying zakat to your family? I heard my dad saying this yesterday, but I don't know where it says this. RAMADAN MUBARRAK!!!!

A: The answer is in various verses. The most elaborate one is: 2:215 They ask you about giving: say, "The charity you give shall go to the parents, the relatives, the orphans, the poor, and the traveling alien." Any good you do, GOD is fully aware thereof. ------- The suggested PRIORITY order is as it occurs in the verse e.g. 1) Parents. 2) Relatives 3) Orphans (related first, then unrelated). 4) The poor 5) Travelling Aliens (unkonwn people whom you encounter as needing help). There are other verses too. But the order of priority is the same. The only difference is that the Parents may be bunched together in the term "Relatives" (because they are relatives to you) etc. etc.
