Q: so when do people usually start doing the sedar? and how long does it usually last? thanks :D

A: Yenta is right, except that it lasts for quite a while after the meal is over, if you're doing the whole thing. A full seder without any abbreviations is usually at least 3 hours, and can last a lot longer because discussion and questions are encouraged. When I was about 8 to 14 years old, I did everything I could to stretch it out and stay up late, sometimes past midnight. Since I have had kids, I have been careful to be at seders where there is sensitivity to the need to move along quickly enough that they can stay awake for at least most, if not all.
