What should be served for a Passover meal, and what should be kept in mind at such an event?

Q: Which day would be better, Sunday the 20th or Sunday the 27th?

A: This year Pasach (Passover) will be celebrated with the first seder on the evening of April 19th (Nissan 14, 5768 on the Jewish calendar). The Haggadah (the telling) is the intrical part of Passover which recalls the Exodus from Egypt. What should be kept in mind is that even though the Exodus happened over two millenium in the past, the idea is that in every generation, neveryone must think of themselves as having personally left Egypt. The meal is begun with the seder plate, which has symbolic foods which traditionaly include a roasted egg, parsley or celery, a roasted shank bone, charoset (usually chopped apples, nuts, and red wine), Maror (bitter herb, usually horseradish) and chazeret, a second bitter herb. Afterwards, a meal which could include gefilte fish, roasted chicken, matzo ball soup, almost any kosher meal, but it must not include any levened bread,or any grain (wheat, rye, oats, spelt, barley, etc. (this includes beer). The exclusion of all the above grain, except matzo, continues for one week. Hope this helps
