Q: passover is soon and i need ideas about what to pack in my lunch that is kosher for passover, stuff that travels well and tastes good cold, any ideas?

A: Salads are the most obvious answer. If you want more protein than you can get with just veges, consider taking along a min-can or packet of tuna. If you are absolutely strict about Passover, there is tuna labeled kosher for Passover; Seasons is the brand I see in my area. (But I have to admit that for something like tuna, I will eat any brand.) I eat a lot salads on Passover, both because they raise no problems of being kosher and because so much Passover food is heavy and not terribly healthy. Having a lot of salad helps balance out some of the other stuff. The other old standby is hardboiled eggs. They will keep for most of a day without refrigeration. You can also cut them up into your salad, but I prefer them as is, with the salad separate. If you only need a few hours between packing your lunch and eating it, a little lox on buttered matzoh is a real treat. Slightly messy, of course, but yummy. And I remember my mother would pack tuna salad on matzoh sandwiches for me to take to school on Passover. Again, it is something to be careful of if you need to have it out of refrigeration for more than a couple of hours. Ashkenazic Jews usually do not eat rice on Passover, but the Sephardim do; in fact, it is very traditional to have rice on the holiday. I am of mostly Ashkenazic background, but obviously there are responsible Rabbinic authorities who will say that rice is kosher for Passover. It's your choice, but if your own concience and your Rabbi approve, rice dishes (yes, even cold ones) can offer a lot of additional variety. Try rice mixed with leftover turkey or other meat. for example. I wish you a joyous Passover. Good luck!!
