Q: My wife and I are Christians but have been invited to attend a dear Jewish friend's family Passover dinner. We are quite honored and want to contribute out of that honor. Yet the hosts insist that we bring nothing. We would be embarassed to arrive empty-handed. What can we bring?

A: This is a tricky thing. It's best to bring a non-edible gift, like flowers or a plant. Unless another Jewish friend suggests a food item, that is. (I brought my now ex-mother-in-law a tulip plant, just to be safe.)
