Q: I am 21, married (no children). My mom will be turning 46 on Aug 22. I asked her what she wants and she said "nothing". She doesn't have any hobbies. She doesn't need anything. She doesn't wear jewelry, except for her wedding rings. She also doesn't have her ears pierced. She is VERY picky when buying clothes or shoes, etc. We don't usually spend much money on each other, like $25 dollars tops. We are already going out to eat on her birthday. I am totally clueless!

A: Moms always tell their children not to get them anything for their birthdays, but as a mom and even tho I tell my kids not to, I am always thrilled to get a thoughtful, INEXPENSIVE gift from them....Flowers or a plant (like a pretty African violet or two) are always good; any kind of nice chocolate; a pretty scented candle and holder or those candles in a jar (you can get some great ones for under $10.00 at stores like Walmart or Kmart); a good smelling hand and body lotion with matching body wash and a net scrubby (again, you can pick these up at the larger retail stores) and make sure you give her a nice card....those are the things moms love from their kids....and a big kiss, too.
