How did this happen?

Q: How did kids ever get it into their heads that they are entitled to big parties, material things, etc.? I see a bunch of questions in this section about 16yr old girls having or planning these lavish parties and getting expensive cell phones etc. I just want to know how it became acceptable, how spending all this money (which most of it isn't theirs) teaches them how to be responsible adults? Discuss. Contemplate.

A: I think kids today think they are entitled because that is the message they are getting. If you watch anything pop culture that is where this message of lavish parties comes from. One could surmise that they aren't being told no from their parents/guardians if they are expecting such expenses. It's hard to raise responsible adults. I think parents aren't putting in the effort.
