something special for my sweet 16, but i also want to do something to help someone else too. help!?

Q: i am looking for ideas of how to celebrate my sweet 16. my birthday is in november and i live in PA so any thing out side is not an option. also i was thinking i could do something to give back to the community or something that would help someone. any suggestions are welcome! thanks for helping me!

A: I think what you want to do is very sweet! What you can do is ask your guests to do is instead of bringing gifts, to either bring a check made out to a certain charity, or pick out a few charities and ask them to make a donation in your name to those charities. Or if there's somewhere local that you want to donate to, like an animal shelter, a homeless shelter, etc. Go visit them and ask what they need. Then ask your guests to bring those things instead of gifts and then you can deliver those things to those places after your party. You can have bins marked for each place so your guests know which bin things go in, and then make sure to keep those things separate. Like buy white bags for one organization and black for another, or make sure and label the bags with BIG paper and tape them securly so they won't fall off and then deliver the donations the day after the party. You can collect coats for those that need them for the winter, clothes for the homeless, towels and food for the animals at the shelter, food for the food pantry, etc. Go to the places that YOU want to help and ask them for a list of things that they need and when you send out the invites, ask that these are brought instead of gifts, and include the lists, and then at the entry of the party, have the bins clearly labeled so everyone knows where to put the things they brought to donate.
