Q: that because of some issues with a warehous in China, the fireworks displays will be slightly smaller this year? But the really sad part is that the US relies so much on other countries, that we can't even make fireworks for ourselves? I mean, honestly, it's OUR Independence Day, but all of the materials for celebrating comes from overseas! While some fireworks do come from other places, the vast majority are from China, where they are hand-made. There have been people (especially on the news and NPR) talking about how their expected supplies are down 20%-40% because of the issues with Chinese shipping. Cities are scrambling to rearrange their light shows or doing last-minute trades with other cities to get needed supplies. Jim C: exactly my point. The US won't provide for itself at all. I wouldn't say it can't. It just won't. Shipping jobs to foreign countries and depending on them for imports is ridiculous, and very irresponsble of us. To the person who said making things in the US would hurt our economy: What are you talking about? Depending on other countries is what hurts our economy. Our import to export ratio is pitiful.

A: Look at your TV, your clothes, most of your cars, your computer. They are all made someplace other than the U.S. except for a smsll percentage of the clothes. Almost every mechanical device is foreign made. Even the autos made in the U.S. are made of parts made someplace else. This trend started back in the '60's, got worse in the '70's and by the '80's we really felt the crunch of jobs lost to foreign countries. I lost several jobs because the U.S. could not compete with the foreign market and the ones I worked for headed south to Mexico, or west to China and Japan. Fireworks is the least of the problem. Incidently, they were invented by the Chinese.
