Q: The two have kind of Ironic, and opposite meanings. We seem to have adapted to celebrate the date, and time of our government's takeover; rather than our independence from euro style government.
A: good question, but I think most people like to think of it as our separation from the Brits, and our newly formed Govt. just ran with it..what is sad is our Govt. does not care for you or your family, only to make sure they keep us thinking that we have rights which is only a pipe dream..Happy 4th..
