A: Jews generally give monetary gifts in multiples of $18. (Eighteen being a special number that means "life" in Hebrew) Consider a gift certificate to her favorite store or online site. US Savings Bonds are nice alternatives to cash gifts. You must order the bond a few weeks in advance. They sell for half of the face value, so a $50 bond costs $25. BTW - A girl has a baT mitzvah. BaR mitzvah is for boys.
