A: This year, Hanukkah is on the 21st of December (that's the first night). But the first day would be December 22nd. As for presents, Hanukkah isn't actually traditionally a present-giving festival (unlike Purim, when it is a miztvah (good deed) to give gifts. However, many families give presents anyway. Most of my friends give me one present but my family give me 8 little ones. So, you could either get her one big one, or 8 mini-cheap ones.
