A: Diwali is basically considered as the symbol of victory of good over evil..In different parts,different Gods and Goddess killed the asuras or the evil demons...though its a new moon day it doesnt seem like it...earthen lamps are lit and new clothes are worn..It basically consists of 5 days in which different gods are worshipped like Lakshmi- the goddess of wealth, Saraswati- goddess of Education .Also the new year for all business men..Then ther bhau bhij ie the brother goes to the sisters house for lunch..and she thanks him for takin care of her{he takes this vow earlier in the year on the day of raksha bandan-another festival}..hope i answered all queries
