Q: I'm doing my best to learn about different holidays this winter season. I'm not sure if this is a winter holiday but I'm very interested on what this holiday is. Can someone please explain it to me?

A: Dasara is a festival celebrated by Hindus . it is also called navaratri . Nava means nine an ratri means night . It is celebrated for ten days and nine nights . One of the days is called Ayudha puja in north India and ayudhu puja in the south . People worship general stuff that they use like the telephone and pencils ,and thank god for gifting us with them .Vijaya Dashmi is also another important day . Hindus worship goddess Saraswati and thank her for the gift of knowledge . It is considered auspicious to play musical instruments on Vijaya Dashmi . A grand parade is held at Mysore and royal elephants participate in the procession .North Indians celebrate by dancing the Garba and Dandiya .
