A: Each State celebrates in a diff way. South it is Saraswati Puja. Means Music, dance, studies.. all significant. In Kerela, dance classes do puja and start. Mysore there is a procession from the Palace. Bengal it is Vijaya Dashami. When Goddess Durga is immersed in water. Then they all visit each other and exchange sweets. West, they put marigold garlands on cars and in door ways. Northern States Ravana, Megnath and Kumbhakaran effigies are burnt. Fireworks go. And all have sweets. There is no special Arati done at home. Flowers are Marigold this time. Also any seasonal red ones. This has a lot of information http://hinduism. about.com/ od/festivalsholi days/a/mothergod dess.htm
