What are some cool presents you can make or that you received that were made?

Q: I am going to school for my master and I am getting to a point where I am going to need to quit my job to finish my degree. I wanted to save some cash by making gifts but I don't want to be that cheesy lady who gives tacky toliet paper dolls. (even though I personally love them LOL) I need gifts ranging from kids to adults, men and women. I can sew, make jewerly... weave and make dolls. The other thing is I need to keep the price down because with the cost of supplies, sometime it's cheaper just to buy the item, then to buy the fabric and take the time to sew it with the cost of fabric. I am still thinking of either to make stuff or just bargin shop like crazy this summer. Any suggestions would be great. (for Christmas)

A: I love to cook... so for Christmas my partner made me a homemade apron...just the way I wanted it.. Large pockets, etc. It meant more to me than if they had gone and spent loads of money on something I wouldn't have used. The fabric was on sale and she added little touches that I especially liked. Also for Christmas we made homemade gift baskets of our homegrown herbs and spices. Wrapped them in burlap and added small touches such as wooden spoons, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed doing it together as well. We got a load of ideas from the Food Network (i.e. Paula Deen). But the apron was my best gift :)
